Darwin Tulip Hakuun
T1570
Description
The pure petals of Darwin Tulip 'Hakuun’ – meaning ‘white cloud’ in Japanese – are reminiscent of pillowy, cumulus clouds billowing against a blue sky. Planted in blocks amongst borders and containers, this tulip creates a blanket of spotless, snow-white blooms which sparkle in the sun and gleam in the moonlight.
This impeccable variety, tulop 'Hakuun' boasts giant flower heads, perched on extraordinarily long stems, making for an exquisite cut flower. Reliably perennial, this Darwin Hybrid will re-emerge year after to grace your garden with its soft, pearlescent glow.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
