Fosteriana Tulip ‘Purple Purissima’ is the soft rosy-pink counterpart to the classic white ‘Purissima’, offering the same elegant form with a warmer, more delicate colour palette. The silky blooms of tulip ‘Purple Purissima’ bring gentle spring warmth to borders, containers, and seasonal displays, opening wide in sunlight to reveal their luminous sheen.
Flowering early in the season on sturdy stems, this refined variety pairs beautifully with its white parent form as well as other pastel spring bulbs, creating calm and sophisticated planting combinations.
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
